The VA Creative Collective is a global relational network of Indigenous and First Nations creatives. Not a database. Not a social network. A living pool of the ones carrying story forward — filmmakers, photographers, musicians, artists, writers, Elders, and every craftsperson whose work carries lore.
Every arm of the Network feeds it. Every arm draws from it. VA Studio commissions through it. One Fire Festival programs from it. VA Publishing looks for authors within it. External production companies enter it under protocol.

Where The Storytellers Of The World Find Each Other, And Are Found By The Ones Who Come Looking.
For as long as we have been here, we have been telling stories. But storytellers, in the modern world, have been isolated. A filmmaker in one city. A photographer in another. A musician on one continent, a writer on another. An Elder in a small community holding knowledge that a young artist across the ocean is trying to reach. The people who should be in relation with each other are scattered — cut off by geography, by algorithm, by an industry that has never built the infrastructure for them to find each other.
The Collective is that infrastructure.
We invite you to gather at the fire. To make yourselves visible. To find each other. To be found.
That is our role. It always has been. It’s time we remember who we are.
A Fire That Fuels Future Generations
Story is survival. It carries memory forward. It ensures that future generations inherit knowledge, not silence. The VA Creative Collective exists to make sure that the storytellers of today have the visibility, support, and resources they need to keep the fire burning for those who come next.
Here, Indigenous creatives are not just seen – they are centered. Their work is not just displayed – it is valued, protected, and empowered. This is about creating pathways for future Indigenous artists – not just to be included, but to lead.

Country Speaks, Community Carries, Story Comes Home
The Collective is where that pattern breaks.
Here, the voice of the place tells its own story. The photographer of that Country makes the images of that Country. The filmmaker from that community carries that community’s film. The songkeeper sings the song that belongs to their peoples. The writer of that land writes the words of that land. The story does not arrive from outside. It rises from the ground it belongs to, spoken by the ones who have carried it forward through generations, in the voice it has always had.
This is what true representation means. Not visibility inside another system. Not a seat at another table. It is Country speaking through its own people, on its own terms, in its own voice, to the world that has waited too long to hear it properly.
Every member of the Collective is a voice of a place. Every project made through the Collective is a story coming home. Every commission run through the Locality Principle is another film, another photograph, another song, another book made by the ones who belong to the ground it stands on.
This is why the Collective exists. This is why it must be held under lore. This is why every ally who enters agrees to walk in right relation before the door is opened.
