Documentary Photographer, Storyteller, Filmmaker, Cultural Custodian

Andrew D. Flanagan is a documentary photographer, filmmaker, and cultural storyteller dedicated to amplifying Indigenous voices and reconnecting people with the land. With a career that spans continents, Andrew’s work is deeply rooted in reciprocity, capturing the resilience, beauty, and wisdom of communities often pushed to the margins.

Raised on stories and landscapes that spoke of deeper truths, Andrew’s journey has taken him from remote Aboriginal homelands in Australia to the Arctic tundra, the Amazon, and beyond. His lens is not just a tool but a bridge – one that carries the stories of Elders, land defenders, and cultural knowledge keepers into spaces where they must be heard.

Through his nonprofit work with the NGARRA Project, he collaborates with Indigenous youth, equipping them with cameras to document their own lives and narratives. His projects, whether a visual archive of endangered traditions or a documentary on frontline environmental resistance, are all part of a larger mission: to help people remember their role as custodians of the Earth.

Andrew’s approach blends striking visual storytelling with Indigenous methodologies, prioritizing relationships over extraction and knowledge over spectacle. His work has been exhibited globally, featured in publications dedicated to decolonial storytelling, and used as an educational tool for communities seeking to reclaim their narratives.
